The course Global Health, Literacy and Community Development takes place during summer session III and the study abroad to Nicaragua takes place between July 27 and August 10th (exact dates to be finalized) .The global health class will meet on-line to discuss readings on global health, community health practices and community development in Nicaragua. Pre-trip meetings on the UI Campus will begin shortly after students are accepted into the program. The trip is limited to 10 students. The study abroad leaders are Professors Helen Brown, Movement Sciences and Janine Darragh, Curriculum and Instruction who have come together to teach this two week experience. Our In-Country Host Organizations are CEPAD, a Faith based community development organization and Fundacion Aprender, a non-profit dedicated to improving education and quality of life for the Las Salinas Community. Aprender founders, Gabriela Prado and James Womack own and operate Eqilibrio Yoga Retreat and Art Center, our primary home base.
